Hunt on for escaped St Mary prisoner
ST MARY, Jamaica – Police say a manhunt is now underway for a prisoner who escaped custody from the holding area of the St Mary Parish Court on Friday.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is looking for Oshane Scott, otherwise known as ‘Chin Chin’, a 31-year-old man of Manchester Lane, Cox Street, Port Maria, St Mary.
He is known to have a small tattoo on the right side of his neck.
He was scheduled to appear before the Port Maria Circuit Court to face charges of attempted pape, larceny, assault at common law, and unlawful wounding.
Reports are that at 9:05 am, Scott was being escorted by a police corporal from the restroom back to the holding area when he assaulted the officer and managed to flee through the main gate onto Warner Street.
The JCF says despite immediate pursuit by officers on duty, Scott escaped and remains at large.
The corporal was subsequently taken to the Port Maria Hospital and treated for injuries sustained during Scott’s bid to escape. Scott has been in custody since February 21, 2024.
The JCF says it is committed to ensuring the safe apprehension of the fugitive, described as dangerous, and is asking for the public’s cooperation.
Anyone who may have information on the whereabouts of Scott is urged to contact Police Emergency at 119, Crime Stop at 311, the NIB Tip Line at 811 or the nearest police station.
