WATCH: Three shot, one fatally in Manchester home invasion
MANCHESTER, Jamaica— A man was shot dead while his cousin and a woman were injured in a gun attack at their family home in Hibernia near Devon in Manchester on Wednesday night.
Relatives named the murder victim as Evon Gibson otherwise called ‘General’, 45, a construction worker and mechanic.
Preliminary reports are that about 9:30 pm gunmen stormed the family home through a back door and opened fire hitting Gibson multiple times. Another man identified as his cousin was shot in the leg while the cousin’s girlfriend was shot in the upper body.
They were taken to hospital where Gibson was pronounced dead while the injured couple were admitted for treatment.
Three other people including Gibson’s 90-year-old grandmother, his teenage cousin and the child’s mother were unharmed during the invasion.
This latest incident has increased the number of people killed in Manchester since the start of the year to 47.
Avril Gibson, Evon Gibson’s father, told Observer Online that his son was a hard worker.
“Me only son. Him a the first pickney out a me back…. This (Wednesday) morning me talk to him seh ‘General come tek down the decking board dem’ him seh ‘yes daddy’ and see wah happen deh,” said the elder Gibson.
“Him a builder. Him a jack of all trades. Right now your vehicle come all yah suh and breakdown, him drop out the engine and by a morning yah get back your vehicle,” he added.
The elder Gibson believes his son was envied for being handsome and attractive.
“Him good looking enuh. The woman dem like him. Me nuh know if a woman dem kill him over or wah,” he said.
Up to early Thursday morning detectives processed the scene in the usually quiet community in north east Manchester.
