Tomahawk Technique earns new certification in Germany
Conroy Forte recalls working with Sean Paul on project
Music producer Conroy Forte was on top of his game in the early 2010s as his Washroom Entertainment label spewed back-to-back hit rhythm projects with Poolside and Matrimony rhythms.
One of the songs from the Matrimony rhythm, Wedding Crashers by Sean Paul and Fambo, is featured on Sean Paul’s Grammy-nominated album Tomahawk Technique.
The album, Sean’s fifth, was recently certified gold in Germany, a new milestone for the project, which previously earned a similar certification in France and Switzerland.
In an interview with the Jamaica Observer last Wednesday, Forte recalled working with Sean Paul and contributing to a project that was later nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Reggae Album category.
“First of all, Sean is actually one of the most humble, down to earth, super mega stars I have ever met or known. He truly is a living legend and rare breed of artiste. It was very easy working with him, and we did quite a few songs together. That’s actually great news to hear about the album’s achievement in that territory. Germany is the world’s fourth-largest music market and the second-largest in Europe,” Forte told the Observer.
According to Forte, singer Wayne Marshall played a role in the Matrimony rhythm.
“Wedding Crasher was originally a part of a juggling called Matrimony rhythm. Shout out to Wayne Marshall who was also instrumental in bringing the project to fruition,” said Forte.
Some of the other well-known songs that were featured on the project include Wedding Chapel by Tifa, Matrimony by Lady Saw, and Good Ole Wife by Wayne Marshall.
Forte’s other hit songs included Certified Diva by Tifa and Tami Chynn, Hold On by Tifa, and Gyal Siddung by Konshens and Dario.
Internationally, the Bubble Gum rhythm did well for Washroom Entertainment.
“I got into production back in early 2000, after graduating from the Institute of Audio Research in New York at the time. I would produce Tammar’s [Tami Chynn] first demos. I literally begged her to become a singer. Those demos and her first single
Rock You featuring Kid Kurupt were instrumental in getting her known locally and landed Tami her first recording contract with Universal Records in 2005,” the producer recalled.
Forte, who presently resides in Florida, is originally from Cherry Gardens in upper St Andrew. He attended Hillel Academy and later St George’s College.
“I am still involved in music but in a different way. I started a company called We Dream Loud, which is an online music marketing agency. I am currently working on new music production with my little brother Lyndon Forte, as he has recently gotten bit by the music bug. I’m also doing marketing work for Shockface, an incredible bass music producer/DJ from the US,” Forte shared.
Tomahawk Technique also featured production works by Stargate, Shellback, Benny Blanco, Rico Love, Pierre Medor and Shaun (Copper Shaun) Anderson, who presently works as a DJ with Fyah 105 FM.
The album spawned the hit singles Got 2 Luv U featuring Alexis Jordan (#1 in Switzerland and top 10 in several European countries), She Doesn’t Mind (a hit across Europe and making the top 10 in multiple countries), Hold On (#1 in Belgium and #35 in France), How Deep Is Your Love featuring former Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland (#3 in Bulgaria and #68 in Austria), and Touch the Sky (#44 in Austria, #6 in Belgium and #31 in Germany).
Tomahawk Technique, released in January 2012, peaked at #2 on the US Billboard Reggae Albums chart, #34 in the UK, #6 in Germany, #5 in France, #10 in Belgium, #11 in Australia, and #7 in Austria.
