Skip, YG Marley surge on Billboard’s Rhythmic Top 40
Skip Marley and his cousin YG Marley are charting simultaneously on Billboard’s Rhythmic Top 40 Airplay chart.
Skip rises from his #34 debut on last week’s chart to #31 with Close, a song which samples Maxi Priest’s multi-certified 1990 #1 Hot 100 hit, Close To You.
This is Skip’s fourth entry on this particular Billboard chart. His previous entries were
Chained to the Rhythm with Katy Perry; Slow Down, a gold-certified hit with R&B singer H.E.R.; and Make Me Feel featuring Rick Ross and Ari Lennox.
YG Marley’s global hit Praise Jah in the Moonlight, peaked at #34 on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this year. He makes his debut at #39 on the Rhythmic Top 40 chart with
Awuke, featuring Nigerian singer Davido.
Awuke backtracks from #11 to #12 on Billboard’s US Afrobeats Songs chart. The song spends a third week at the top of the Nigeria Hot 100 chart, which uses the same chart methodology as the Billboard Hot 100.
It was released October 31 via Columbia Records.
Now onto the sales and streaming-driven Billboard Reggae Albums chart, YG and Skip’s grandfather, Bob Marley, along with the Wailers, log 254 non-consecutive weeks at the #1 spot with Legend.
Best of Shaggy: The Boombastic Collection inches up to #2, while Dutty Classics Collection by Sean Paul dips to #3 and his Grammy-winning Dutty Rock re-enters at #4.
Stick Figure has back-to-back entries as World on Fire, Set in Stone and Wisdom are ranked at #5, #6 and #7.
Greatest Hits by UB40 dips to #8, while the group’s 1983 multi-platinum-certified
Labour of Love re-enters at #9.
Labour of Love is the group’s fourth studio album and first covers album. Among the covers of Jamaican songs featured are Cherry Oh Baby, Sweet Sensation, Many Rivers to Cross, and Johnny Too Bad.
Rastaman Vibration by Bob Marley and the Wailers remains at #10.
In Germany, Nobody Move by Major Lazer featuring Vybz Kartel moves into the #2 spot on the Urban/R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
On regional charts, singer Mikey Spice controls the #1 spot on both the South Florida Reggae and Foundation Radio Network (New York) Reggae charts with Money Talks.
Over on the Rebel Vibez Top Ten Canadian Reggae chart, Smile by Michael St George spends another week at #1, while Reggae Music Still Deh Ya by Legato is #2.
Karma by SkyStar holds down the #3 spot, while How Long by the female duo Blk Orchid is #4. Jamaican-born Andrae Duhaney’s Let Me Love You bolts to #8, while
Put It On by Tasha T is new at #10.
