Missionaries of the Poor gets $5m to upgrade Faith Centre
SANDALS Foundation has donated $5 million to upgrade the Faith Centre, a vital shelter operated by the Missionaries of the Poor, providing refuge for approximately 80 homeless individuals.
The project, set for completion by year-end, includes funding for labour and materials to optimise dormitories to create a more efficient and spacious living environment, tiling both dormitories and bathrooms, and making essential structural improvements to enhance the overall comfort and safety for residents.
The Faith Centre, established in 1984, serves occupants in and around Kingston and St Andrew, providing essential services such as nutritious meals, free medical care from a certified nurse, and a place of safety. Over time, many of the structures have deteriorated and the renovation aims to address these issues, bringing about a much-needed transformation.
“We recognise the incredible work Missionaries of the Poor has been doing to provide homes filled with love, nourishment, and care,” said Heidi Clarke, executive director of the Sandals Foundation. “The Faith Centre has served this community for years, and we are honoured to assist with upgrades that ensure the space is safe, hygienic, and welcoming for its residents. Supporting organisations that offer love and a sense of home to individuals of different abilities is truly important to us,” said Clarke.
“This support will bring much-needed comfort and dignity to our residents,” said Father Maximo Medina of the Missionaries of the Poor. “We are deeply thankful for this partnership, which will help provide a safer and more welcoming home for those in need.”
As the holiday season approaches, Sandals Foundation — philanthropic arm of Sandals Resorts International — says it remains steadfast in its mission to bring hope and joy to those who need it most. Through meaningful collaborations and acts of kindness, the foundation said it will continue to work toward creating an environment where everyone, regardless of their circumstances, can experience comfort, care, and a sense of belonging.
