Lower GCT on grocery to 10%, PM
Dear Editor,
I love that we are paying off the debt, the dollar is stable, and unemployment is the lowest ever. But I would like Prime Minister Andrew Holness to know that, if ordinary people are buying less and less at the market and supermarket, the good economic numbers mean zilch.
I am a small business owner. I know what I am talking about, because I see it every day. I hear it every day, and I am feeling it too.
I like the vision that Holness has for Jamaica. If nothing else, it is far better than the one from the People’s National Party (PNP), which Mark Golding is keeping a great secret.
I ask one favour of Holness, though, please, lower General Consumption Tax (GCT) on all grocery items to 10 per cent for even two years, until growth returns to the economy.
And, please also increase the minimum wage to $20,000 early next year.
Please, Sir. Thank you!
