Moses I switches it up with ‘Di Glama’
As a budding artiste in Papine, St Andrew, Moses I was introduced to roots-reggae through that area’s large Rastafarian community. Later, he embraced the colourful dancehall genre, which gave him his biggest hit song.
The veteran singjay recently debuted Di Glama, his latest song, at Rub A Dub Thursday in Kingston. Self-produced, he said it reflects a willingness to change with the times.
“It is about a new style and herbs with different, outstanding and dramatic sounds,” Moses I said in a recent interview with Observer Online.
Di Glama is done for his company, Livon Music Production, which has released and marketed most of the artiste’s songs in recent years.
In October, it was one of the tracks he performed at Rub A Dub Thursday, a popular weekly event hosted by deejay Peter Metro. Another song Moses I did was Crazy Look, the collaboration with Capleton that was a big hit in 1998.
“It was a big joy for I to be on Rub A Dub Thursday, as it is a foundation platform for artistes,” said Moses I. He added that, “It important to stay fresh ‘cause people don’t want to hear di same tings all di time.”
Born Anthony Singh, Moses I’s early musical heroes included roots icons like musician/producer Augustus Pablo and producer Philip “Fatis” Burrell.
He began recording songs during the late 1980s. His breakthrough came after 10 years in the music business with Crazy Look, produced by Steven Ventura.
