Carlene Davis spreads Christmas cheer
Carlene Davis has released a new track in time for the holiday season titled
Christmas Inna Trench Town.
Aimed at the upliftment of the West Kingston community, the song made its debut last week.
“The song came about through the request of my band leader Dave ‘Prime Time’ Green. He presented the rhythm track to Tommy (her husband), who created the melody and wrote the lyrics. And, when I laid my vocals and presented it, all who heard were in awe,” Davis told the Jamaica Observer.
She added: “Adassa Michelle Patterson, one of my back-vocalist and I got together on background vocals and we are all excited to see the outcome.”
Meanwhile, Green, who heads JaMIN Studio in Trench Town, lauded the pace at which the idea actualised.
“Couric Clarke and I had this beautiful idea for a Trench Town Christmas album or song. We reached out to Tommy Cowan with the concept and, the moment he heard the rhythm we sent, he jumped into action. What started as just an idea has now become a powerful reality,” he told the Observer.
Davis is no stranger to Christmas tunes, having previously released tracks such as
Bright Christmas, Put Christ Back Into Christmas, When A Child Is Born, and
Santa Claus Do You Ever Come To The Ghetto?
Dr Henley Morgan, founder and chairman of Agency For InnerCity Renewal, welcomed the idea of a seasonal track, noting that it will help to spread cheer throughout the community.
“Trench Town is a world brand made famous by the icons who called it home.
Christmas Inna Trench Town, produced by Carlene Davis, Tommy Cowan, Dave Green, and Couric Clarke and recorded in the JaMIN studio is a welcome and timely attempt to burnish the brand and return Trench Town to its rightful place as the mecca of reggae,” he said.
Christmas Inna Trench Town is distributed through VPal Music.
