Traffic changes in effect for JLP National Conference
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Several traffic changes are in effect for Sunday’s Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Annual Conference at the National Arena, according to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).
BEFORE THE EVENT
Starting at 9:00 am: Arthur Wint Drive will operate as a one-way road heading towards the National Stadium (easterly). Motorists traveling from this direction must turn left onto Roosevelt Avenue, right onto Stanton Terrace, right onto Mountain View Avenue, then right onto Arthur Wint Drive to access the parking lot. Only vehicles with VIP passes will be allowed to enter Roosevelt Avenue towards the stadium, and only event attendees will be allowed to access Arthur Wint Drive from Mountain View Avenue.
The JCF states that there will be no through traffic along Arthur Wint Drive between Gates E4 and the Bob Marley Statue at the intersection with Roosevelt Avenue, as the area will be restricted to pedestrians.
Residents traveling from Mountain View Avenue to The Lofts Apartments will be permitted to turn onto Arthur Wint Drive to access the apartments.
Residents of Stadium Gardens will be able to leave and enter the community using Arthur Wint Drive, but only in the eastbound (one-way) direction.
Additionally, parking will be prohibited on the following roads:
• Arthur Wint Drive
• Roosevelt Avenue
• Stanton Terrace
• Mountain View Avenue
• Latham Avenue
The police warn that vehicles parked in violation will be towed.
Motorists are advised to park their vehicles facing the direction of post-event traffic flow to assist with smoother movement after the event.
AFTER THE EVENT
• Arthur Wint Drive, from Gate E4 towards Tom Redcam Avenue, will operate as one-way westbound.
• Roosevelt Avenue will return to its normal traffic flow.
• Arthur Wint Drive, from Gate E5 towards Mountain View Avenue, will be one-way eastbound.
Motorists traveling on North and Central Avenues towards Arthur Wint Drive will only be allowed to turn right onto Arthur Wint Drive. Emergency vehicles will use these roads to access the Bustamante Children’s Hospital.
Latham Avenue will operate as one-way northwest-bound towards Old Hope Road. For approximately 45 minutes after the event, residents of Stadium Gardens will be allowed to exit the community by turning left onto Arthur Wint Drive but will not be permitted to enter during this time.
All attendees, including motorists and pedestrians, are urged to obey the directions given by the police and other security personnel.
