Money Market makes it look easy in Gerry Skelton Memorial Trophy
IN a dazzling display of speed and agility Money Market, ridden by Dane Dawkins, left his rivals in the dust to claim the top prize in the $1.25-million Gerry Skelton Memorial Trophy feature at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
The talented sprinter, who has been a very consistent sort, put on a show for the crowd with a super sprinting display that left onlookers in awe.
Money Market showed off his impressive skills in the Overnight Allowance contest, strategically sitting behind runners before making a powerful move on the inside rails to claim victory. The contest, held for three-year-olds and upward, covered a distance of five and a half furlongs (1,100m), with Money Market winning by a length and a quarter. Money Market crossed the finishing line in a blistering time of 1:06.1.
Freedom Street (Larris Allen) made a late surge but it wasn’t enough to catch
Money Market, while She’s A Godgift (Javaniel Patterson) held on for a respectable finish after leading for much of the race.
With his impressive win the Gary Subratie-conditioned Money Market cemented his position as one of the top contenders in the sprinting division, and his connections will be eagerly looking forward to his next outing.
Dawkins and Tevin Foster both had a fantastic day at the races, each securing two wins. Dawkins’ other win came after an exciting dead heat finish aboard El Rapido, with
Commander Z (Raddesh Roman) in the eighth race.
Foster’s victories came aboard Chinita Estrella in the fourth race and Digital Light in the ninth race.
Racing continues on Saturday.
