JLP supporters gather for annual conference as vuvuzela ban is enforced
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Strict enforcement of the “no vuvuzela” policy is in effect as supporters of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) begin arriving at the National Arena for the 81st annual conference.
Observer Online observed numerous vuvuzelas discarded on the ground by supporters before undergoing mandatory security checks. On-site police officers and other security personnel have been confiscating the noisemakers. The JLP had previously announced that, similar to the Grand Gala in August, vuvuzelas would be banned at the conference, with attendees encouraged to use bells instead.
Amidst a sea of green-clad, and even green-haired, supporters, party officials, including heavyweights such as Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment, and Sport Olivia Grange; Minister of Foreign Affairs Kamina Johnson-Smith; and Minister of Finance and the Public Service Fayval Williams, have already arrived on-site.
