12 to 12 Time!
New Drax Hall day/nightclub set to tap into trend
Six months after construction began, operators of 12 to 12 — a new day- and night-time lounge, bar and grill located at C4 Plaza in Drax Hall, St Ann — opened its doors to the public on Sunday, November 17.
According to owner, Devon Campbell, 12 to 12 aims to fill a void, while tapping into the live entertainment scene.
“We needed a day lounge in Jamaica because it’s trending around the world. I was inspired to start this lounge after I visited Dubai. So I decided to create one for Jamaicans and tourists,” Campbell told the Jamaica Observer at the grand opening of the facility.
Pressed on the type of budget that it took to get the facility up and running, Campbell shied away from a direct response. He, however, offered: “I can tell you this, it was a significant investment, but we needed something like this in Jamaica. Ocho Rios is becoming more known for events and parties, so it’s the right place for something like this.”
Campbell added: “It will be a home away from home with your friends to come and relax and have fun. We will also be focusing on live music, something nice and easy. I love my Jamaicans so they will be a part of this experience.”
The new lounge will open each day from 12 noon to 12 midnight.
The business has 43 employees who will rotate on a two-shift system.
Although he has stakes in the 8 Rivers Ultra Lounge, which is located in the resort town of Ocho Rios, Campbell is most passionate about his new baby.
“I love what I do and I just keep going. 12 to 12 will offer a new dimension in cocktails, food, which will be a mix of Jamaican and international dishes, the service is one of a kind, and the environment is breathtaking,” said the Molynes Road, St Andrew-raised Campbell.
Fyah 105 FM’s DJ Mario, who was at the launch, is excited about what 12 to 12 has to offer.
“I’m excited about this because it is the first day club in Jamaica. I think it’s one of a kind and the start of something new. The whole concept and décor are really worth coming down from Kingston to enjoy,” said DJ Mario.
Terry Paisley, manager for 12 to 12, told the Jamaica Observer, “This is like a mini hotel, with the exception that it doesn’t have a beach nor rooms. But we do have a pool at the top. So, in essence, it’s like a day pass to a hotel.”
A female invitee at Sunday’s grand opening, who identified herself as Priscilla, said she couldn’t resist the offer to attend the event.
“I am from Los Angeles, and this will be the only place for me whenever I return to Jamaica. It has a lot of vibe,” she said.
DJ Smurf whipped up a musical brew comprising selections for mature patrons that kept even the young at heart on their feet throughout the event.
