WATCH: Upbeat PNP candidate confident of regaining Aenon Town Division
CLARENDON, Jamaica — Delroy Dawson, the People’s National Party (PNP) candidate for the Aenon Town Division is confident of regaining the seat for his party.
Dawson, who lost in February to Majorie McLeod in the local government election, said the residents are already tired of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP).
“Today, I am very very confident and happy that the PNP will be victorious at the end of the polls come five o’clock.
“We have put the work and the work will pay off. The citizens are very disgruntled with the Jamaica Labour Party. If you look on the roads, the water, nothing nah gwaan. The people want to get rid of the JLP, so they are willing to come out and vote. You can see the lines at the polling station are very long because the people just want to see the back of the JLP,” he told Observer Online.
Dawnson said he is bouyed by the turnout.
“In general, you’d see the lines are very very small, persons trickle in, but from morning at this PD [polling division] that I have just voted, the line is just long enough…”
The former two-term councillor said he plans to continue developing the division.
“[My plans are] to continue to represent the people to the best of my ability and to improve the educational system, the infrastructure, roads, water, garbage collection, get some street lights because we have some very dark areas. We have overgrowth all along the road and some places are very dark. With the increase in crime, I think it’s best to have more areas lit so the citizens of the division can be more comfortable traversing at night,” he detailed.
In the meantime, Dawson’s son, Delroy Dawson Jr said he is excited about supporting his father.
“[He has] one hundred per cent chance of winning. He’s gonna win. He’s a great asset to the community. He helps out the members of the community. He is a very kind man. He does what he’s supposed to do. He helps them out in a financial and emotional way. If somebody dead him deh a di grave digging fi help dem with the grave and everything,” Dawson Jr told Observer Online after voting.
