WATCH: Confident Gillings at ease among JLP supporters
TRELAWNY, Jamaica —Independent candidate Lloyd ‘Mozy’ Gillings confidently greeted supporters of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) after he cast his vote in his faceoff with the JLP’s four-term Member of Parliament (MP) Marisa ‘Mama D’ Dalrymple-Philibert.
Gillings voted about 10:45 am, without much fanfare, at Albert Town Primary School.
He repeated his view that Dalrymple-Philibert is not suitable to lead the constituency because of unresolved issues related to charges brought against her by the Integrity Commission. Her next court date is in early December.
Gillings has predicted that he will create history and win by more than 3000 votes.
There are 25,041 names on the voters’ list.
Voters are long familiar with seeing his name on the ballot. After winning two local government elections in the Albert Town Division, which he contested on a JLP ticket, Gillings had a turn of fortunes at the polls after switching allegiance to the People’s National Party (PNP).
As a PNP candidate, he lost heavily to Dalrymple-Philibert in two parliamentary elections, as well as two local government polls.
