Reports of voter intimidation in Aenon Town Division by-election— CAFFE
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Citizens Action For Free And Fair Elections (CAFFE) said that while the voting process of Friday’s by-elections has been mostly smooth, they have received two reports of voter intimidation and disruption to the process from the Aenon Town Division in Clarendon.
“We are aware that the authorities have responded,” CAFFE said in a news release, but provided no further details about the incidents.
It added that so far voter turnout for the parliamentary by-elections in St Andrew North Western and Trelawny Southern has been very slow, while the turnout for parish council by-elections in Aenon Town, Clarendon and Morant Bay, St Thomas “has been much more robust in comparison, with the Aenon Town Division indicating the highest turnout so far”.
“CAFFE, with its team of indoor monitors and roving observers will continue to monitor the by-elections for the balance of the day,” the release added.
