JLP’s Duane Smith wins St Andrew North Western by-election
ST ANDREW, Jamaica — The Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) Duane Smith has won the St Andrew North Western by-election.
Smith claimed 1,863 votes (94.4 per cent), beating independent candidate Carl Marshall who got 111 votes (5.6 per cent) after replacing Rohan Banks when he pulled out of the election.
According to the Electoral Office of Jamaica, the preliminary voter turnout was 6.2 per cent.
The vacancy in the seat follows Dr Nigel Clarke’s resignation.
The main opposition People’s National Party did not contest the election.
