Bodybuilding competition attracts athletes from Caribbean, USA, Europe
Audrey Allwood, president of the Jamaica Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Association (JABBFA), is spearheading a major boost for bodybuilding in Jamaica with the Supreme Ventures Jamaica Invitational Bodybuilding Championship.
This landmark event, set to take place on Saturday at the Courtleigh Auditorium in Kingston, promises to elevate the sport locally and provide a platform for Jamaican athletes to shine globally.
The championship is a collaborative effort between JABBFA, the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA), and Supreme Ventures Group, aiming to create bigger opportunities and exposure for bodybuilding and fitness enthusiasts.
As the only International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB)-recognised governing body in Jamaica, JABBFA is poised to make a significant impact on the sport’s advancement.
With the Supreme Ventures Jamaica Invitational Bodybuilding Championships, JABBFA is cementing its commitment to developing the sport and unleashing the power of Jamaican bodybuilders.
“Jamaica’s bodybuilding scene is set to reach new heights as the first regional competition takes centre stage this Saturday and we are looking forward to it,” Allwood told with the Jamaica Observer.
“We’re thrilled to partner with title sponsor Supreme Ventures and the JOA to elevate the sport. We are trying to go bigger and we are trying to go not only locally but also internationally,” she further said.
The event features five categories — Bodybuilding, Classic Bodybuilding, Men’s Physique, Women’s Bikini Fitness, and Women’s Bikini Wellness — with over J$500,000 in prize money, the largest in Jamaica’s bodybuilding history.
Allwood noted the sport’s steady growth, citing increased participation and a rising interest in fitness and health.
“Bodybuilding has been gaining momentum, with more athletes emerging and people embracing wellness. This competition provides a platform for them to showcase their hard work and dedication,” Allwood said.
Looking ahead, Allwood revealed ambitious plans to have a pro qualifier in the coming years, which could open doors for Jamaican athletes to compete professionally.
“In two years, we’ll host a pro show, awarding pro cards to top athletes, marking a significant milestone in their journey to becoming professional bodybuilders,” Allwood revealed.
The Supreme Ventures Jamaica Invitational is generating buzz beyond Jamaica’s borders, attracting athletes from the Caribbean, USA, and Europe. This international participation will solidify the event’s reputation as a premier bodybuilding gathering in the region.
Chloleen Daley-Muschette, SVL corporate communications and public relations manager, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership with JABBFA, born from their collaboration with the JOA, to help in the development of the sport.
“We’re thrilled to support bodybuilding in Jamaica, adding it to our roster of sponsored sports. This pioneering event with JABBFA excites us, as we empower athletes dedicating themselves to excellence, representing Jamaica on the global stage.
“We anticipate an exceptional show, crowning new champions and contributing to Jamaica’s bodybuilding growth,” Daley-Muschette added.
