WATCH: Cops heighten presence across commercial districts; shoppers advised to be cautious in yuletide season
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The head of the City Centre Police Station says that while more officers have been deployed in the district to maintain safety in the yuletide season, the public is also being advised to exercise caution to safeguard themselves during the period.
Speaking to Observer Online on Wednesday, Inspector David Lowe warned Jamaicans against walking with large sums of money, jewellery and electronic devices when going into crowded areas.
“We ask that persons do not travel with large sums of cash on their person. We also ask them not to wear expensive jewellery, chains, choparitas, rings and we ask them also not to travel with their electronic devices because this attracts criminals on them so we want for them to do all that they can do to prevent against any act of criminality,” Lowe said.
He also appealed to vendors to abide by the system put in place as the yuletide season approaches.
Inspector Lowe noted further that additional foot patrols have been deployed strategically across the business district and said JamaicaEye will be mounted at strategic locations for aerial coverage.
“There is also an increase in police presence in the location so additional foot patrols have been deployed strategically across the business district. Also to assist in the security measure, there are strategic places where the JamaicaEye will be mounted and this is to provide aerial coverage within the space to assist in keeping the vendors and persons who occupy the spaces safe,” Lowe said.
