Sunshine Girls fancy chances of beating England in Vitality series despite trailing 1-0
KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC) – Jamaica’s senior netball team is still confident of defeating England in their ongoing Vitality series, despite trailing 1-0 with just two matches remaining. Both teams touched down at the Norman Manley International Airport on Monday night, ahead of the final two matches scheduled to be played on November 25 and 26 at the National Indoor Sports Centre.
The first match of the four-match series in England ended in a thrilling 49-49 tie, while England won the second game 59-47.
However, despite the deficit, Sunshine Girls head coach Sasher-Gaye Henry still expressed confidence in her team winning the series.
“I think we did great as a team and we should be proud of our achievements. Maybe the last result was not what we wanted but it’s something that we have to work through and try to come to the last two games and improve on our performance,” Henry said.
“It’s going to be keenly contested; it’s going to be competitive. We have to respect England and their second place in the world, and we are number four.
“It all comes down to being disciplined, being precise in our movements and to improve on our weaknesses that we had. We have to limit our turnovers and capitalise on their strengths, so it’s something that we have to work on,” she added.
First-time captain Shamera Sterling-Humphrey is also optimistic about the team’s chances against England.
“I feel like once we can fix what needs to be fixed in the three ends of our court, the midcourt, the shooting and the defence, then I think Jamaica can get the two wins,” Sterling-Humphrey said.
