Pastor Stephen Blake bats to join Freedom Street line-up
Popular pastor and recording artiste Stephen Blake has indicated his interest in appearing on the line-up at the highly anticipated New Year’s Eve Freedom Street concert being headlined by Vybz Kartel.
“God is the God of freedom. Who the Son sets free is surely free indeed, so why wouldn’t I want to preach at Freedom Street? God set Kartel free, so God must be praised on Freedom Street,” Pastor Blake told the Jamaica Observer.
The concert will be held on December 31 at the National Stadium.
So far, other performers such as Spice, Skillibeng, Likkle Vybz and Likkle Addi, plus some of the biggest names from the Portmore Empire crew, including Popcaan, Tommy Lee Sparta, Lisa Hyper, Sheba, and Shawn Storm have been confirmed.
Blake is no stranger to using his ministry to reach souls in the dancehall fraternity. He has released tracks such as God Save Adidjah Palmer, as well as a collaboration with the queen of the genre titled Solid Ground. His most recent offering is God And Time produced by Kirk Bennett or Kirkledove Records. He said that, through his efforts, he has established himself and his mission.
“I no longer get criticisms. The people are starting to see clearly what I do, and who God made me to be — the “dancehall pastor”. As Bounty Killer told me, I am not the tradition but the addition; anywhere me get the chance to preach, me preach,” he reasoned.
For those who might still believe his ways are unorthodox, Blake reiterated that his ministry does not get infiltrated by the secular culture.
“The culture is in all of us. We can’t hide from it, but the key is how do you make a difference and build your nation or community? I choose the Godly path and most of us in the culture have a relationship with God, some [are] just not as loud with it or practise it publicly, but a lot soon change in our culture. God is working,” he said.
