KINGSTON, Jamaica— One vendor is appealing to the government and people overseas for help following a fire at the Pearnel Charles Arcade in downtown Kingston Monday morning.

“People a foreign please don’t call me and stress me, if you have any $200 or $300 or $400 send it come give me. Don’t stress me bout no fire; fire gone already and we have life, is the greatest thing that,” the vendor said, adding that she could not yet disclose how much she lost in the blaze.
“We want the mayor and everybody now to just come in come give us a thing, we can run in and buy little goods, [but] don’t take too long though,” Mitchell added.
Recounting the incident, Mitchell said she arrived at the arcade some minutes to seven when she saw an area, she identified as the storage room, engulfed in flames.

“Up there gone already,” she told reporters, pointing to the storage area.
The vendor, though saddened that she lost her wares in the blaze, expressed gratitude she did not suffer any injuries in the fire.
“But we have life. What we going to do? We going to work on it… anything me lose, me can get it back,” she said of rebuilding her business.
Mitchell stated that she has been working in the arcade for over 30 years, and has experienced three fires.
It is still unclear what caused the fire.
