Montego Bay, Waterhouse tied atop JPL points table
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica— Former champions Montego Bay United (MBU) and Waterhouse are tied for the lead in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) after wins over Racing United and Humble Lion respectively on Sunday.
Both teams are tied on 20 points from nine games played but MBU, who blanked promoted Racing United 4-0 in the first game of a double header at Ferdie Neita Park, has the edge on goal-difference.
MBU extended their unbeaten run to seven games as they scored four goals in a game for a third time this season with two late goals in each half.
Brian Brown gave them the lead in the 36th minute and Shaniel Thomas doubled the advantage in the 40th minute.
Substitutes Tyrone Harrison who scored in the first minute of time added and Johann Weatherly who added another goal three minutes later rounded out the scoring.
Both Waterhouse goals in their 2-0 win over Humble Lion came late in the game as they were gifted the lead with an own goal in the 70th minute before Leonardo Jibbison scored the second in the 76th minute.
Arnett Gardens improved two places in the points tables to fourth after edging Portmore United 1-0 in the second game at Ferdie Neita Park, snapping their opponents seven-game unbeaten run.
A long range left footer from Chavany Willis in time added gave Arnett Gardens all three points as they moved up to 18 points.
Vere Phoenix came from a goal down to take the lead against Tivoli Gardens but had to settle for a point as the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
Lennox Russell opened the scoring for Tivoli when he scored in the 18th minute. Matthew Woo-Ling equalised for Vere in the 30th minute and Denzel McKenzie gave them the lead in the 79th minute. Quewayne Hudson however salvaged a point for Tivoli when he scored in the fifth minute of time added.
In the other game played on Sunday, Harbour View played out a 0-0 draw with defending champions Cavalier.
