UNOPPOSED
Garth Gayle poised to return for third term as JAAA president
JAMAICA Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) President Garth Gayle says the smooth and timely return of track and field competition after the COVID-19 pandemic was the major accomplishment of his Administration.
Gayle will return to the position at the JAAA’s annual general meeting, set for Jamaica College’s Ashenheim Auditorium on Saturday, November 23 at 9:00 am.
Gayle and his executive have been nominated unopposed but there will be a couple of changes, with members switching places.
Gayle, who will be starting his third term, said getting the sport back up and running in 2021 was a big deal after the onset of the pandemic in March 2020 — just before the staging of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships.
The sport was reintroduced under very strict guidelines, with the major championships held without fans, and Jamaica was also represented at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, in 2021.
Jamaica also hosted the 2022 Carifta Games after Bermuda was forced to relinquish their rights due to COVID-19 regulations on the island.
In the JAAA executive Julette Parks will be the new fourth vice-president, replacing the long-serving Vilma Charlton who will be a committee member; and Ewan Scott returns as the director of bureau of records after serving as a committee member in the last executive.
