Antonio and Dixon to miss Reggae Boyz clash vs USA due to lost passports
Jamaica’s chances for a win in Monday’s crucial return leg Concacaf Nations League quarterfinal game against the USA in St Louis was dealt a big blow as attacking players Michail Antonio and Kaheim Dixon did not make the trip after losing their passports.
Head coach Steve McClaren confirmed that both players would miss the game at Sunday’s pre-game press conference but did not go into details around the circumstances that led to both players losing their travel documents.
“Michail Antonio and Kaheem Dixon, both of them lost passports, and it was too late to get new ones and to get visas to come over here,” McClaren said in his opening remarks, “So they are missing.”
Neither player featured in Thursday’s 1-0 loss to the USA at the National Stadium in Kingston. Antonio was sitting out a one match suspension while Dixon was an unused substitute.
McClaren also confirmed the absence of several players including Ethan Pinnock and Bobby Reid who he said had not recovered in time from injuries while Mason Holgate has been suspended after he was shown a red card in Thursday’s game.
Meanwhile Khori Bennett and Ravel Morrison have been called up in the squad for Monday’s game.
