Scary for students
Criminals strike in the vicinity of two schools within minutes
Gunmen struck twice in the vicinity of schools in Manchester and the Corporate Area within minutes Friday morning, disrupting classes and raising fresh concerns about the lack of regard for the nation’s educational institutions.
Students, teachers and administrators were left traumatised as the heartless gunmen fatally shot a bus driver on the compound of Holmwood Technical High School in north-east Manchester about 8:15 am.
As news of that incident spread, reports emerged that a male driver had been fatally shot outside the gates of Rousseau Primary School on Ricketts Avenue in east-central St Andrew just before 9:00 am.
The two shootings sparked calls for enhanced security measures to safeguard the country’s educational institutions by Opposition spokesman on education Damion Crawford, while a distressed director of education services in region five, Susan Nelson-Smith, lamented the impact these incidents are having on the nation’s children, some of whom witnessed the killings.
