Jamaican jockey Javaniel Patterson excels in Canadian stint
Javaniel Patterson recently returned to the saddle in Jamaica fresh from a successful riding assignment in Canada. His impressive 155-mount stint yielded 13 wins, 24 second-place finishes, and 25 thirds, earning CAN$203,174.
Patterson rode at Assiniboia Downs in Winnipeg, Century Mile, and Century Downs, both in Edmonton.
“The trip to Canada was lovely,” Patterson enthusiastically shared with The Supreme Racing Guide.
“It was a little bit harder than I thought, but the experience was good.”
Patterson acknowledged the demanding nature of professional racing.
“Work is hard, and so I had to work hard, and I did very well, so I cannot complain.”
“I won 13 races, and I am grateful for that,” he emphasised.
Patterson credited established trainers for providing valuable opportunities.
“I have been getting rides regularly, as I have trainers over there that I am working with. Even though they have their barn riders, I still put in the work and get the rides as well,” he said.
Back home, Patterson swiftly resumed winning ways, guiding Patrick Lynch-trained
Pretty Caroline (USA) to victory in the $750,000 Super Lotto Trophy on November 9, 2024.
The race was for native-bred four-year-olds and upward (non-winners of two) and imported four-year-olds and upward (maidens) over 7 furlongs (1,400m).
Pretty Caroline won by 2 lengths in a time of 1:31.1 beating Papa Gray (Samantha Fletcher) and Money Box (Shane Ellis).
“It is nice to be back home and winning races. I am pleased with the progress that I have made so far. I have been here two weeks now and I have been on board this horse in the mornings and she felt quite good in her gallops. I was confident in her chances and she delivered,” Patterson said.
