Champions Mona knocked out of Manning Cup; JC and KC advance
Craig Butler announces 'retirement' from schoolboy football
Defending champions Mona High were knocked out of the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup on Friday as they were beaten 2-0 by Kingston College (KC) at Stadium East.
KC finish second in the group on 6 points, a point behind zone winners Jamaica College (JC) who simultaneously whipped Tivoli Gardens 4-0 at the Ashenheim Stadium.
The results mean JC and KC are through to the semifinals while Tivoli and Mona, who finished the group third and fourth respectively with 3 points and 1 point, will now play in the Walker Cup quarterfinals.
Following his team’s defeat, Mona High coach Craig Butler said he was retiring from schoolboy football.
“This is where my schoolboy football journey ends, I will now retire from schoolboy football and allow my son (Mona assistant coach Kyle Butler) and Ricardo (assistant coach Ricardo Martin) to continue the dynasty,” Butler said.
JC and KC will also be two of the four urban teams who will vie for the all island Champions Cup title.
The remaining two spots will be decided on Saturday when Hydel take on Campion College and Excelsior battle St Catherine.
