Popcaan’s ‘Twist and Turn’ is certified gold in America
For the second time in his career, dancehall artiste Popcaan has earned a gold-certified single in the United States of America.
On Thursday, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) issued a gold certification commemorating sales and streaming equivalent to 500,000 units sold for his 2020 hit Twist & Turn which also features Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR.
Popcaan issued a statement to Observer Online, in which he thanked his fans for their continued support.
“I dont have much to say, its just a part of the journey and there’s way more to forward. Thanks to God and love and respect to the fans and to the unruly/OVO family. It’s a golden moment,” said Popcaan.
Twist & Turn is featured on Popcaan’s 2020 release Fixtape, which peaked at #2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart. The set also peaked at #94 on the all-genre Billboard 200 albums chart.
Twist & Turn hit multiple Billboard charts during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. It peaked at #47 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 chart, #36 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, #26 on Billboard’s Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay and #30 on Rhythmic Top 40 Airplay.
Popcaan’s previous gold certification came from his participation on the Jamie XX hit single I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times) which also features rapper Young Thug. It was certified by the RIAA in March 2021.
