Cabbie accused of stealing truck, registering and selling the stolen vehicle
KINGSTON, Jamaica – A taxi operator has been charged after allegedly stealing a truck, registering it in his name and then selling it.
Jermaine Knight, the 31-year-old cabbie of a Long Lane, Kingston address, is facing charges of larceny of a motor vehicle; receiving stolen property; obtaining money by means of false pretences; and possession of a revenue paper before it was duly stamped and issued for use, following a June 24 incident in Portmore, St Catherine.
Reports form the Portmore police are that about 7:00 pm, a man parked and securely locked his $1.6 million Nissan caravan truck before going to bed. When he awoke, the truck was gone.
Knight is accused of not only making modifications to the vehicle, but visiting the Tax Administration Office where he allegedly registered the truck in his name and later sold it for $1.2 million.
