Woman injured after truck hits car, overturns on Spur Tree Hill
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — A woman sustained injuries after her car was reportedly hit by an out-of-control truck on the Spur Tree Hill main road in Manchester Wednesday afternoon.
Preliminary reports are that about 1:15 pm the truck, which is assigned to PriceSmart, was travelling downhill with two men aboard when it hit a Suzuki Grand Vitara and overturned.
An alleged eyewitness told Observer Online that she saw when the crash happened.
“I saw when the truck turn over and when it hit the vehicle that was coming up the road (hill). When it swing it cross the road, it went over to this side and turn over, so basically a that me see,” she said.
She added that only the driver of the Vitara was seriously injured.
“Only the lady in the Vitara. She was spitting blood, so she gone to the hospital,” the eyewitness said.
“The men in the truck weren’t hurt,” she added.
She believes that the crash-prone Spur Tree Hill road is safe and that most crashes there are due to driver-error.
“It has been a while since something like that happen. To me is the people who driving the vehicle, the road is not dangerous, is the people who driving the vehicles. The gentleman said he lost brakes and he never had any control to come this side,” the eyewitness said.
“So it is all about the driver. The road has nothing to do with it,” she added.
The accident-prone Spur Tree main road links Mandeville and its environs to St Elizabeth and points west. Heavily laden, slow-moving trucks often hinder traffic on the steep, difficult hill, and there have been a number of fatal crashes involving trucks over the years.
