Judge grants bail to man accused of failing to deliver toilets to buyer
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A 48-year-old businessman accused of obtaining money by false pretence was granted bail in the sum of $250,000 with one to two sureties when he appeared before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday.
Gary Brown was arrested after it was reported that he received approximately $170,000 from a man in July 2024 for the purchase of 28 portable toilets but never delivered the goods.
Appearing before Senior Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell, Brown told the court that he intended to deliver the goods but was unable to do so within the agreed time. He noted, however, that he was willing to deliver the goods or refund the money to resolve the matter.
He was then granted bail under the conditions that he is to report to the Denham Town Police Station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays between the hours of 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.
He is to return to court on December 11, 2024 where he is expected to refund the complainant in entirety.
