JPS Foundation to take ‘A Trip to the Future’ with Climate Action Conference and Expo on November 30
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) Foundation is set to host its first ever Climate Action Conference and Expo on Saturday, November 30, 2024, Under the theme ‘A Trip to the Future: 2050 Jamaica.’
Scheduled from 9 am to 10 pm at the Chinese Benevolent Association in Kingston, JPS says it will be an immersive experience that will not only educate attendees on the climate emergency facing Jamaica but also showcase the nation’s vision for a sustainable, eco-friendly future.
Highlights of the Expo will include live fireside chats and expert-led panel discussions hosted by Paula-Ann Porter Jones and ZJ Sparks, as well as guided tours and a climate-focused scavenger hunt, engaging visitors in hands-on learning.
“This event will be a game-changer,” said Sophia Lewis, JPS Foundation Head, at the media launch on Tuesday, November 12. “A key offering of our Conference and Expo is the experiential learning component – learning by doing, participating and interacting. It’s not only about climate talk; it’s about climate action.”
The creation of a ‘Sustainable City’ is touted as a core part of the event and will feature a Teaching Tunnel, the Change Corridor and a Career Corner, offering insights into emerging professions in the climate space with support from the Scientific Research Council, Environmental Solutions Limited and JPS. The Innovation Square will also be a focal point, featuring the Road to the Future, Electric Avenue and Solutions Pavilion, all showcasing practical examples of sustainable practices.
The public will also benefit from live demonstrations of climate-related innovations from various sectors, including civil society, the energy industry, automotive dealers, home solutions and agriculture.
