Jaydon Hibbert nominated for World Athletics Rising Star Award
World Under-20 triple jump record holder Jaydon Hibbert says he is honoured and grateful to be nominated for the World Athletics Rising Star Award, a prestigious accolade recognising the brightest emerging talents in global track and field.
The World Athletics Rising Star Award is part of the organisation’s annual awards ceremony, celebrating the year’s most exceptional U20 athlete. Hibbert is among an elite group of nominees, including Olympic Bronze medallist Mattia Furlani of Italy and Niels Laros of the Netherlands, who finished sixth in the Olympic 1500m.
The award winner will be announced by World Athletics on December 1.
“I’m humbled, grateful, and honoured for this nomination. This is my second time being nominated for the Rising Star Award, which highlights outstanding junior athletes on the world stage,” Hibbert said, adding “This recognition creates a pathway of hope for other young athletes, proving that they, too, can compete with the best—even among seniors.”
At just 19-years old, the Jamaican athlete has already made an impact with his exceptional performances in the triple jump, establishing himself as a formidable competitor on the international stage.
Hibbert’s nomination comes against the background of some outstanding achievements by the teen this year, including setting the World U-20 lead in the triple jump with a leap of 17.75m at the Racers Grand Prix on June 1 at the National Stadium in Kingston. At the Paris Olympics in August, despite a slight injury, Hibbert delivered a strong performance, jumping 17.61m to finish fourth—missing a medal by a mere 0.03 centimetres.
