Americans want what Trump wants
Dear Editor,
The overwhelming victory that Donald Trump got in the recent US presidential election points to one of two things:
1) America wants to go back to the Trump era, where the economy was performing better, the wall was erecting to keep the border safe, and the world was seemingly at peace; or
2) America is finally warming up to Trump and his avant-garde personality.
My interest is with the latter.
Is it that America now understands Trump a little better and can appreciate his ‘weird’ and ‘strange’ leadership style?
Is it that they are okay with him not being presidential but just getting the work done?
Trump is unconventional. The way he speaks, governs, and performs on the international scene can irk some of us. But a little ‘getting to know’ and familiarity may give us a better perspective.
Even in our own personal life and situations, at work and church, it is important to spend time to get to know our family members, colleagues, and friends. Our leaders, too, deserve our time and patience; time to understand their policy direction and to determine their performance and output. Time is always the master, and time heals. It helps us to appreciate differences of opinion and personality traits.
I am getting the impression that, having spent 8 years or so on the political scene, voters are getting more familiar with Trump and are buying in to his policy, philosophy, and patriotism in wanting to Make America Great Again.
The trajectory is pointing to the reality that most Americans want what Trump wants. The vote is telling, and he seems to be exonerated.
In this 2024 contest Trump has bettered his 2016 and 2020 performances at the poll. A landslide victory is not ordinary, it speaks volumes.
Many thought that 2020 was the end of Trump. He has returned, and in fine style, because he is the only Republican president to get the popular vote in 20 years.
The American populace has mended the broken pieces with Trump. The relationship is sweeter than before; like a husband and wife who were estranged, found a sweeter love, so is Trump with the American people.
The world awaits a rebranded Donald Trump, who seems to be containing himself a little better, as seen on the campaign trail, where he tried to be disciplined in his messaging, resonated well with ordinary people, as he showed that he could be congenial and likeable. Remember him decking out in a garbage collector’s vest, driving in a garbage truck and working at McDonalds?
Though not stately, one thing is certain, Trump is a worker; one who is adept at the economy and tough on crime and terrorism.
I congratulate the 45th/47th president of the United States of America on this historic win, and hope to see some foreign policy initiatives which will benefit small island-developing states such as ours.
