Vision Alexander, Sean Alaric upbeat over Grammy nomination for Best Remixed Recording
When the nominations in the 67th Grammy Awards were revealed last Friday, South Florida-based songwriter Vision Alexander and producer Sean Alaric were among the Jamaicans on cloud nine.
The musicians were part of the team that worked on the remix of Jah Sees Them (Amapiano remix) by Julian Marley and Antaeus, which received a nomination in the Best Remixed Recording category. John Barrett, Meyekal Coree, DJ Footsteps, Mr Myish, Alex Psaroudakis and Joe Maldonado are also a part of the project.
The other nominees in the category are A Bar Song (Tipsy) remix – Shaboozey and David Guetta; Alter Ego (Kaytranada remix) by Doechii featuring JT; Espresso (Mark Ronson x FNZ Working Late remix) by Sabrina Carpenter; and Von Dutch (AG Cook remix) by Charlie XCX, AG Cook featuring Addison Rae.
In an interview with Observer Online on the weekend, Vision Alexander said “It feels unreal to God be the glory, back-to-back nominations. It especially feels great doing it with the same winning team. Hopefully we can pull off another win for Jamacia and reggae music next February,” said Alexander.
The original version of Jah Sees Them is featured on Julian Marley’s Colors of Royal album, which won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album earlier this year.
Said Alexander: “Working with Julian is always a great experience. I’m very grateful for the opportunity and for all the musical teachings he taught me when we worked together.”
Alexander has two previous Grammy nominations.
“To be honest this nomination out of the three that I’ve received really came as a surprise as this category is very new to us. But I’m happy that we were able to get the nomination. This nomination signifies that there is no glass ceiling that Jamaican/reggae music cannot break,” Alexander reasoned.
Alaric described working with Marley.
“It’s humbling to be able to be on this journey with Julian. Historical in the sense that Colors of Royal was his first Grammy win, but also to be considered again, two years in a row. It’s also inspiring to see where this project was coming from, to now being considered amongst top musicians such as David Guetta and KAYTRANDA,” said Alaric.
Alaric, who racked up credits on Jesse Royal’s Grammy nominated album Royal, says this nomination is different compared to his previous nominations.
“It’s definitely a different feeling, one that maybe hasn’t fully hit me yet. For one, this being my fourth nomination in just five years is an incredible feeling. Also, the fact that we are nominated in a different category, competing with musicians from all over the world. That is testament to the work that we do not being limited to one genre or sound,” said Alaric.
