Perry InChrist set to release debut EP InChrist
Four years after he embarked on his musical journey, gospel recording artiste and final-year political science major at The University of the West Indies (Mona), Perry InChrist is gearing up to release his debut EP titled InChrist.
The project, which is scheduled for release on November 15, features production by Bull Puss, DJ Shunz, and Always Kreative.
“The message resonating with the InChrist EP is that we are called to be different. Different in the way we live our lives, how we communicate with others, and definitely with the message we share. With this EP the core message is that true positive change can only be found in the Lord while we have a relationship with him,” Perry InChrist told the Jamaica Observer on Tuesday.
Perry InChrist, who last year earned a Breakout Artiste of the Year nomination in the Sterling Gospel Music Awards, said the inspiration behind releasing the EP came from a drive to do more for the Lord.
“Musically, it is always a great thing to showcase excellence that represents Christ. This EP is my first official major musical project, and it is a testament to how far the Lord has carried me in ministry,” Perry InChrist shared.
Tracks on InChrist include Hiding Place (acoustic), Christian Walk, Ready, Greatness, Lethal Weapon, When the Fire Come Medley, and Dejavu. Perry InChrist gave an insight into what fans can expect on the EP.
“I expect people to be refreshed musically, to be drawn closer to Christ, and to use my songs as their daily motivation. For too long we’ve allowed secular music to be the go-to music for day-to-day air play and meditation. With my EP, I expect that people will be able to use my music as a tool to transform and impact their lives,” he said.
Perry InChrist says he gave his life to Christ at the age of nine.
“Music began from an early age for me. I was brought up in church where I learned to play the drums and keyboard. I also sang with the children’s choir and other choirs as I grew older. I always wrote poems and songs, and my popularity grew in high school as I became known for my musical talents. However, it was in the COVID-19 [pandemic] when I started music professionally,” said Perry InChrist who attends the United Pentecostal Church in Kitson Town, St Catherine.
He also spoke about his journey in Christendom.
“My journey has been one of grace and filled with purpose. I can tell you that the Lord has brought me a mighty long way. God has sent destiny helpers in my life that sees the vision and is willing to play a part in me accomplishing these dreams and aspirations. However, there are rough times as well. These moments only made me focus more as I balanced the time between music and other responsibilities,” Perry InChrist disclosed.
Born Perry Cummings Jr, he is originally from St Catherine. He attended St John’s Primary and later the Jonathan Grant High School in Spanish Town.
