No reduction in bail for man found with bullets at police station
MONTEGO BAY, St James — A parish judge last Wednesday remained steadfast in her decision not to reduce the bail sum for Aldine Reynolds, who was found in possession of two bullets while on the grounds of Montego Bay Police Station.
Reynolds is charged, alongside Donald Mitchell, with unauthorised possession of ammunition.
They are being represented by attorneys-at-law Chumu Paris and Henry McCurdy, respectively.
On June 19, when the men made an appearance in the St James Parish Court, they were each granted bail in the amount of $500,000 by presiding judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton.
However, during the subsequent court hearing on October 16 it was revealed that Reynolds was still in custody as no one was in a position to post bail on his behalf.
Consequently, Fairclough-Hylton lowered the amount to $350,000.
During the hearing in the St James Parish Court last Wednesday, Paris informed the court that the defendant’s family members were still financially incapable of meeting the bail requirement.
However, Fairclough-Hylton expressed reluctance to further decrease the sum, citing the defendant’s presence on the police station grounds while in possession of bullets.
Also, during the hearing, the clerk informed the court that the ballistic certificate was still outstanding and would not be available until Friday.
The case was subsequently scheduled for a plea and case management hearing on November 21, and Mitchell’s bail was extended.
Reynolds also had his bail offer extended.
According to court documents, on June 6 about 10:00 pm, a white Nissan motor car entered the premises of Montego Bay Police Station. Subsequently, one of the defendants — who was in possession of a brown bag — disembarked the vehicle and discarded the bag in the vicinity of the perimeter wall.
No information was provided regarding the contents of the bag.
However, the court was told that during a thorough inspection of the vehicle, two rounds of ammunition were discovered hidden beneath one of the front seats.
Both men were arrested and charged.
