Mabe, Courts Jamaica support education with essential appliances
MABE International, in collaboration with its retail partner Courts Jamaica, has made a significant contribution to Cumberland High School in Portmore by donating air conditioners. This initiative is part of Mabe International’s ongoing commitment to supporting education and improving learning environments.
Cumberland High School recently received two 24,000 BTU air conditioners, which have been installed in the nurse’s station to alleviate the intense heat that has been a challenge for both students and staff. The donation aims to create a more comfortable and conducive environment for sick students and the nurse.
Nurse Cynthia James-Aikman expressed her gratitude, stating that Mabe has helped the school address one of its key concerns for the nurse’s station this year.
“I see a lot of students during the hotter parts of the day, and because of the heat we are currently experiencing, most times I have to put the sick students to sit under the gazebo outside until a parent or guardian can collect them. Also, the case of maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy with the excruciating heat inside the nurse’s station, which is most of the year in my opinion, is often at risk of being breached because I have to open up the space or use outside spaces,” she said.
Principal Carlon Pitt said due to financial constraints they could not equip the area with the necessary AC, so the nurse reached out to Courts, who fortunately responded with support from Mabe.
“We are grateful for the show of support from Mabe, because I, too, have been in the nurse’s station and witnessed how difficult it is to work and get better there. Therefore, this is a tremendous help to the school, because when students are not healthy, they cannot concentrate on schoolwork. Plus, part of the trust is not only education but the health and wellness of each child in our care,” Pitt said.
“This contribution will make the area more habitable and facilitate a space that the students can recuperate and at least feel comfortable if needs be that parents cannot come for them after falling ill during school hours.”
Mabe air conditioners will provide the school with up to 70 per cent savings on energy courtesy of the TecInverter technology, and its Tri Filter system (ultra clean air technology) will keep the nurse’s station clean and fresh with its purification system, ensuring a healthier environment for the students and staff.
Additionally, Mabe also answered the need for a refrigerator at Ewarton Primary School. This refrigerator, equipped with the Home Energy Saver Technology, will save the school energy while providing better food preservation and greater food freshness.
Josette Christie, guidance counsellor, said the school is extremely appreciative of the gesture.
“We have made requests to other companies, but to no avail. So we were very surprised, but very pleased, when Mabe responded. This is an important gesture to Ewarton Primary and the school community, as this also benefits persons in the surrounding area,” she said.
Founded in 1946 in Mexico City, Mabe International designs, produces, and distributes appliances to more than 75 countries around the world.
Courts Jamaica is part of the Unicomer Group, the official distributors of Mabe International products in the region.
