SRC celebrates Science and Technology Month with series of events
The Scientific Research Council (SRC) will host a series of activities during November in observation of Science and Technology Month, which is being recognised under the theme ‘Harnessing innovation in the application of science and technology for national development’.
Carolyn Rose Miller, SRC Divisional Manager, Marketing and Cooperate Communications, said the aim is to sensitize and disseminate information on the application of science and technology in everyday lives.
Activities planned for the month include the Civil Service Week Regional Expositions and Health Fair, which will celebrate civil servants, on November 19; and Science in the Park, which will engage students, on November 21. Both events will be held at the Emancipation Park in St Andrew.
The 15th Annual National Health Research Virtual Conference will also be held from November 20 to 22 and will be hosted by the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
There will also be a workshop on shampoo making at the SRC on November 30.
In the meantime, the SRC’s signature event, SRC on Show, which will highlight the agency’s services and clients, will be held on November 28 at Hope Gardens.
Rose Miller noted that SRC on Show 2024 will be an extraordinary showcase of innovation, entrepreneurship, and the support role of the SRC in facilitating the commercialization of Jamaican products and ideas.
“SRC on Show is interesting. It showcases our work with clients who we have helped to move their idea from concept to market. So our clients tell our story,” Rose Miller told Observer Online.
“We also expose the public to business opportunities and they get to interact with our scientists, explore and brainstorm,” she continued. “This year we have invited stakeholders along the value chain from raw materials to packaging, labeling, business support and market access. So outlets can see firsthand authentic Jamaican products that they can carry in keeping with their mantra to support brand Jamaica.”
