‘Malang’ to put Indian culture on showcase
Prerana Singh, founder of the Mudra Art Group, is certain that this year’s staging of Malang will highlight the Indian culture even more.
Malang takes place on November 9-10 at 6:00 pm and 5:00 pm, respectively, at Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts (PSCCA) at The University of the West Indies, Mona.
“We are serving something that is not very common. We’re gathering something unique, and my show is going to add a lot to the performing arts. I want people to come and experience [it]. India is known for its rich culture, and we’re very rich in the performing arts, as well. I want patrons to see how we contribute to the new generation, and [how] we’re still keeping our performing arts culture alive and taking it to another standard,” she told the Jamaica Observer.
Adding that both shows were sold out from earlier this week, Singh said she and her team pulled out all the stops to ensure seamless performances.
“We had a run-through show on Thursday. We checked the backstage and it went well. Since it went well we’re keeping our fingers crossed that the show is also going to be good,” she said.
The group consists of 65 members while the show will see 35 pieces over three hours.
Proceeds from the shows will go to Sanatan Dharma Mandir — a Hindu temple on Hagley Park Road in the Corporate Area.
