Apryl Jaye hopes to hit right notes
With diverse influences such as jazz legend Ella Fitzgerald and reggae great Dennis Brown, Apryl Jaye blends those genres whenever she performs. That blend drives I Don’t Wanna Love Again, her first song, which is scheduled for release on November 14.
The Dominica-born singer will officially launch the single at Summit Kingston (Knutsford Court Hotel).
She is hoping to hit the right notes at next week’s show.
“I’ve always felt a bit different, and I want to reach the audience that appreciates the fusion I create. Through sharing snippets on IG, I’ve attracted people who resonate with what I do, and now I want to connect with my local niche market on a deeper level,” said April Jaye.
While I Don’t Wanna Love Again marks her recording debut, Apryl Jaye has done the live show rounds.
“Performing live allows me to interpret songs in different ways and see what resonates with the audience. Over time you get a sense of what works, which helps when recording,” she told the Jamaica Observer. “You can then be intentional about how you deliver each part of the song so that it creates an impact every time the listener hears it.”
Produced by Nicolas Groskopf, he is a guitarist known for his work with Raging Fyah, Tessanne Chin, Jesse Royal, and Wayne Marshall. He guided April Jaye on her maiden studio voyage. He is accompanied by bassist Delroy Hamilton, drummer Glendon Clarke, and Miguel Anderson on keyboards.
April Jaye moved to Jamaica as a child, after living in Dominica and Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. After graduating from high school, she moved to the United States and Canada.
