A giant has left the stage
Dear Editor,
With the death of Quincy Jones, the world has lost one of the giants of popular music.
For more than 70 years, Jones has been among the most notable figures in the world, with his exploits as a record producer, composer of film scores, artiste, film producer, arranger, conductor, instrumentalist, TV producer, record company executive, television station owner, magazine founder, and multimedia entrepreneur.
One of the accomplishments that Jones will be mostly remembered for is his work with Michael Jackson that resulted in Thriller, which remains the best-selling record album of all time. Memorable, too, was his work with Frank Sinatra and his screen hit, the sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, which launched the career of Will Smith.
Not surprisingly, Jones received 80 Grammy Award nominations and 28 wins, including a Grammy Legend Award in 1992. He was a titan of entertainment.
He was also famous for supporting numerous charities and causes, including the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
I extend to all his connections my sincere condolence.
Rest in peace, Quincy Jones; the world is not about to forget you any time soon.
