WATCH: ‘We are 100% behind Duane Smith’
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Councillor for the Hughenden Division, the Jamaica Labour Party’s Andrew Harris says the JLP’s machinery in St Andrew North West is “100 per cent” behind Duane Smith, the party’s candidate in the November 22 by-election to select a new Member of Parliament for the constituency.
Smith, a three-term councillor for the Chancery Hall Division, has succeeded Dr Nigel Clarke as the JLP’s representative for the constituency.
Clarke resigned as Member of Parliament for the constituency at the end of last month to take up the deputy managing director position with the International Monetary Fund.
Speaking with Observer Online ahead of Smith’s nomination at the Pembroke Hall Community Centre, Harris said “He has a 100 per cent support from the Hughenden Division and there is no doubt that the other divisions will follow suit.
“I just want to say (to people), give him a chance… I am sure with the opportunity, he will do well,” Harris said.
In the meantime, Smith expressed that he felt “good” and “comfortable” over the support he has received.
