Johnny Nash’s The Reggae Collection hits Billboard
The Reggae Collection, a hits compilation by the late American reggae pop singer Johnny Nash, makes its debut on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart at #8, some 31 years after it was released.
This is Nash’s second appearance on the chart. He previously charted at #5 in 2020 with
The Best of Johnny Nash.
The Reggae Collection, a 21-track set, was released by Sony BMG Music Entertainment in 1993.
Featured on the compilation is the chart-topping I Can See Clearly Now, Guava Jelly (a cover of the Bob Marley hit with peaked at #83 on Cash Box Magazine’s Top 100), a cover of Marley’s Stir it Up (peaked at #13 in the UK), Nice Time, Hold Me Tight (#5 in the US and the UK in 1968), Cupid (#39 US in 1969), Mellow Mood and an updating of
Tears on My Pillow, which was a #1 hit in the UK in 1975.
Nash died in 2020 at the age of 80.
Elsewhere on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, Bob Marley and the Wailers clock 251 non-consecutive weeks in the #1 position with Legend, while Sean Paul’s Dutty Classics Collection remains at #2, and Best of Shaggy: The Boombastic Collection is firm at #3.
Stick Figure continues its dominance with multiple entries as World on Fire, Wisdom, and Set in Stone are #s 4, 5 and 6.
UB40’s UB45 re-enters at #7, with Welcome to Jamrock by Damian “Jr Gong” Marley and Here Comes the Hotsteppper by Ini Kamoze holding down the #9 and #10 positions.
Shenseea’s Work Me Out featuring Wizkid continues to lose momentum as it dips from #40 to #46 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart. Over on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, the song backtracks from #27 to #32 in its tenth week.
Akon’s latest chart effort Akon’s Beautiful Day rises from #24 to #22 in its third week on Rhythmic Airplay Top 40.
On regional charts, roots singer Glen Washington tops the South Florida Reggae Chart for a second week with Feeling Irie, while New Creature by Ky-Mani Marley steps up from #12 to #10.
There are three new entries. Run Run Run by Ed Robinson enters at #23, True Love by Wesrok and Big Mountain flies in at #24, and I Won’t Last A Day Without You by Jozee steps in at #25.
Over to the Foundation Radio Network (New York) Reggae chart, Money Talks by singer Mikey Spice takes over the top spot, while Lessons of Love by Christopher Ellis bolts from #6 to #3.
In Every Country by Busy Signal debuts at #26, 9 out of 10 by Nadine Sutherland opens at #28, and So Tired by Dollar Man arrives at #30.
And, on the Rebel Vibez Top Ten Canadian Reggae chart, Pick Up the Pieces by Steele remains in the #1 position with Let Me Love You by Jamaican Andrae Duhaney rising to #7, and I Am The One by 6iixGal inching up to #8.
