Government offices to remain closed
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Government offices will remain closed on Tuesday as inclement weather conditions across the island are expected to persist.
Public sector workers who are able to work remotely are encouraged to continue their duties online, utilising the digital tools and platforms provided by their respective ministries, departments, or agencies, a statement from Jamaica House said Tuesday morning.
It noted, however, that all essential and emergency services will remain operational and encouraged personnel working in these critical areas to travel safely and take necessary precautions as they carry out their duties in service to the public.
“The safety of our employees and the wider Jamaican community is our priority at this time,” Prime Minister Andrew Holness said.
“We appreciate the dedication of our essential service workers and urge all who are commuting to exercise caution. Those who can work from home are asked to utilise online resources to ensure continuity of services where feasible,” he added.
In the meantime, members of the public are urged to follow safety guidelines and advisories from the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM).
