DaCosta Cup quarter-final games off for today
ISSA announced on Monday that the start of the quarter-finals of the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup competition has been postponed from Tuesday to Wednesday, earliest. This is because of a tropical storm affecting the island this week.
Two games were scheduled to be played on Tuesday and two more on Wednesday, before four games on Saturday and another four next Tuesday to decide the semi-finalists and qualifiers for the first round of the ISSA Cup competitions.
ISSA says all games in the Corporate and Rural Area Under 14/16 competitions that were set for yesterday and today have also been postponed, and new dates will be set.
St Elizabeth Technical High School was to play McGrath High in Santa Cruz while Glenmuir High was up against Frome Technical at Glenmuir today.
The games that were originally set for Wednesday were Munro College versus Ocho Rios High at Munro College, and Central High against Garvey Maceo High at Wembley Centre of Excellence.
The eight teams in the quarter-finals were decided on Saturday, following the final set of games in the round of 16 during which the top two teams in each of the four zones earned qualification.
They will play in two groups of four teams, with the top two earning a place in the semi-finals as well as qualification into the first round of the ISSA Cup in which they will meet the top four schools from the Manning Cup competition.
Meanwhile, the eight teams that failed to get past the round of 16 will be drawn in the first round of the Ben Francis Cup, originally set to be played on November 13th.
Clarendon College, whose quest for a third-straight daCosta Cup title ended on Saturday, leads the teams that will play in the first round of the Ben Francis Cup.
Seven-time winners Cornwall College, Kemps Hill High, Alphansus Davis High, Dinthill Technical, Happy Grove, Manchester High and Denbigh High are the other qualifiers for the first round.
The four winners will then face the four teams that did not get into the daCosta Cup semi-finals, with the winners qualifying for the semi-finals and the final set for December 7.
