Digicel ready to support national storm response
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Telecommunications company Digicel says it is fully prepared for the approaching potential tropical storm.
In a statement on Monday, the company said it has put its adverse weather contingency plan into high gear to ensure that everything is in place to best manage the events of the coming days.
Specifically, Digicel said it has ensured that all cell sites and fibre optic installations across the island are in good order and ready to go.
“Beginning with preparatory messages to our customers and the wider public, we’ve also been busy collaborating with key disaster preparedness stakeholders, including ODPEM (Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management), first responders, and even our competitor. We’re taking an all-hands approach to Jamaica’s response,” said Stephen Murad, chief executive officer of Digicel Jamaica.
In urging everyone to do all they can to prepare for the potential storm, Murad said “Our primary concern is the safety of our people. We take this opportunity to remind everyone to take the necessary steps to stay safe and prepare for the storm by stocking up on basic items, securing their homes, keeping their phones charged and topped up so that they can keep in touch with their loved ones. Likewise, we have done everything possible to ensure that we are ready to weather the storm and have mobilised our technical teams and field engineers across the island.”
