Portmore take over JPL lead with big win over Molynes
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — Portmore United (PMU) took over the lead in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) after hammering bottom-of-the-table Molynes United 4-0 in their game played at Ferdie Neita Park on Sunday.
Portmore extended their unbeaten run to six games and improved to 16 points, two points ahead of Montego Bay United — who they drew with 0-0 a week ago — and Waterhouse who face each
other on Monday, if weather conditions allow.
After leading 1-0 at half time through a Junior Grizelle goal in the 39th minute, Portmore scored three more in a 19-minute span in the second half. Javier Brown made it 2-0 in the 65th minute, Romeo Guthrie scored a third goal in the 77th minute and Omar Reid rounded out the rout in the 84th minute.
Defending champions Cavalier FC salvaged a point to join Mt Pleasant FA on 12 points when they came from a goal down to draw 1-1 against Tivoli Gardens in the second game of a double header at Stadium East. Anthony Nelson gave Tivoli Gardens the lead in the 41st minute but Shaquille Stein scored for Cavalier FC in the 78th minute to share the points.
Arnett Gardens won back-to-back games, getting by Humble Lion 2-1 at Effortville Community Centre to move into sixth place on 11 points. Arnett scored two goals in the first 32 minutes to take control
of the game, Warner Brown opening the scoring in the 24th minute and Shai Smith adding a second eight minutes later. The veteran Afiba Chambers got a consolation for Humble Lion in the 89th minute.
Dunbeholden continued their hot winning run with a 2-0 win over Chapelton Maroons at Dunbeholden. Ricardo Thomas scored just before the halftime break in the 44th minute while Nakeel Wright got the second in time added in the second half.
