Dunbeholden face Chapelton in seeking third win of season
DUNBEHOLDEN will look to secure a third win in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) season when they host Chapelton Maroons at Dunbeholden Sports Complex today at 3 pm.
Dunbeholden displayed grit and determination against last season’s runners-up Mount Pleasant on Wednesday, as they had to come from behind to win 3-2. Dunbeholden General Manager Roger Simmonds says Wednesday’s win has given them a confidence boost and they plan to build on it today.
“We are confident, and the players are confident because they are putting in the work on the training ground so we’re very upbeat that we will get a positive result on Sunday,” he said. “That victory has given us a morale boost, and we saw improvements in that game. We believe we will continue to improve. We know a number of our players haven’t yet reached their full potential, as many are still out of form, but as time progresses the team will get stronger — and once we put in the work, the results will be on our side.”
Dunbeholden is 11th with six points from six matches while Chapelton, having played seven games, is ninth with eight points. Simmonds acknowledged that Chapelton, who drew 1-1 with Arnett Gardens in their last encounter, has been performing well in recent matches, and he expects a challenging match today.
“As you can see, no team in the premier league is weak at this point. All teams are strong, so we’ are preparing for this game like any other,” he said.
“If you look at Chapelton’s last result, they could have secured a positive outcome against Arnett Gardens. Arnett Gardens beat us in our first game of the season so we don’t take any team for granted.
“Chapelton is playing good football and they have strength in their attacking line-up, so they are coming with all guns blazing. But, we are preparing to withstand that challenge and ensure we come out on the better side of victory.”
Defending champions Cavalier will face struggling Tivoli Gardens at Ferdie Neita Park at 1:oo pm. Cavalier, who are in excellent form this season, recently routed MOCA FC of the Dominican Republic 7-0 at the National Stadium on Wednesday, to advance to the final of the Concacaf Caribbean Cup.
Coached by Rudolph Speid, Cavalier remains the only unbeaten team in the JPL, occupying fifth place with 11 points from five games. Montego Bay United lead the standings with 14 points from seven matches while Tivoli is 12th place with five points from six games.
