Despite struggles, Ryan Berry continues musical conquest
Ryan Berry has been a born-again Christian for the past 31 years. He began his journey in gospel music at the age of nine, while singing in church. However, the journey hasn’t been an easy one.
“Musically, the journey has been good and bad. Good, meaning that people have been encouraged by my music and it has brought joy to many. Negatively, it has been a struggle to get a break in the music industry,” Berry told the Jamaica Observer on Friday.
Berry, who released a gospel album in 2017, dropped his most recent project,
You Are Mine, a lovers’ rock EP dedicated to his wife of 16 years. It features six songs and was produced by Leighton Murray.
“Being a Christian has given me the opportunity to use the talent that God has given me to share the gospel locally and internationally. What made me decide to give my life to Christ was when I heard a preacher share a sermon regarding one’s salvation. He emphasised that our parents’ salvation is unable to save us. Thus, I make a conscious decision to follow Jesus,” Berry shared.
Originally from Seaview Gardens, St Andrew, Berry now resides in New York, USA.
Along with his younger siblings, the Young Thrillers, he has been singing in church from the age of nine.
The artiste sees his life as a living testament to the power of faith and resilience. Many young men and women have taken the path of destruction; he has seen how God has led him on the way of life.
Berry has worked as a background vocalist with gospel deejay Papa San and he has also shared stages with international artistes such as Fred Hammond, Donnie McClurkin, Tye Tribbett, Mary Mary, Lieutenant Stitchie, Tonex, T-Bone, Ramiyah, Detrick Hadden, Rachael Lampa, Israel Haughton, Alvin Slaughter, Chevelle Franklin, among several others.
Along with his wife and daughter, he worships at Freedom Chapel International Center Assembly of God, located in Amityville, New York, under the leadership of Pastor Denis Henri. The couple currently serves under the guidance of the pastor as pre-marital counselors and are one of the assistant marriage ministry leaders.
His latest single One Love was released on September 10. It is produced by Kenly Thompson.
